We are a small and mighty tribe seeking to add a Monday music teacher. It is a student-voted unique music class for 26 weeks, from September 9, 2024, to May 12th, 2025.
This position is lesson planning and teaching music to a small group of 11-15 twice-exceptional students, grades 5-12. Our students are all bright, neurodiverse, and also have learning differences or special needs, such as ADHD, high-functioning autism (Asperger's), or anxiety. This is a hands-on, "doing" class and will be lots of fun and is a chance to share your love of music and be creative! There are no grades, homework, or tests. Another teacher who knows the kids will also be there to assist you.
The class will focus on:
Digital music, making their own music and lyrics, singing with a focus on karaoke, using an electric keyboard, possibly playing intro to a few other easy instruments. Most have limited or no music experience.
Through the lens of their interests above (digital music making, karaoke, etc.), the goal of this course is designed to provide essential experiences in the five conceptual areas of music: rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and expression. Students will learn these areas through a wide range of musical processes: moving, speaking/singing, listening, playing, reading/notating, and mostly creating. Students will be given the opportunity throughout the school year to present material and concepts they have learned in class.
About the Position
This is an onsite position from 1:00-3:30 for 26 weeks on Mondays, starting September 9, 2024, through May 12th, 2025.
Due to our breaks and holidays, there is no school the dates of October 7th, October 14th, November 25th, December 16th-January 5th, February 10th, March 17th, and April 21st. Ideal for a music student or musical parent of students or someone looking to build out their resume and get some strong recommendations for a job well done, or a musician who loves teaching and needs a very part-time position!
The position is 5.5 hours per week for 26 weeks. (2.5 of those hours are teaching Music and helping to supervise breaks and end-of-school day activities and parent pickup. The remaining hours consist of at-home planning time, parent-student-teacher communication, a monthly summary of what was done in class that month for parents, collaborating with co-workers and the head of school, meetings with other teachers and supervisors, and other duties/meetings as assigned. We do not lesson plan on-site.)
December 9th and May 12th are “Project Parade” days. These are showcase days in which the students share/perform some of their work.
If you are interested in more hours, there is the possibilty of being a Substitute teacher during our Tuesday through Thursday classes at times as well, just let me know.
