DutiesThis position will be home based at an assigned location but will require heavy travel to temporary work locations throughout the defined regional area.A major portion of the incumbent’s assignments will consist of calibration and repair of mechanical and electrical instruments which measure pressure, temperature, vacuum, draft, liquid level, flow, weight, position, vibration, humidity, speed, eccentricity, gas composition, and density; the calibration and repair of automatic control devices which regulate liquid level, feedwater flow, furnace draft, furnace combustion, superheat temperature, and reheat temperature; and the adjustment and maintenance of program controllers.A minor portion of the incumbent’s assignments will consist of the calibration and repair of miscellaneous plant instruments and control devices.In the performance of these duties inspects, diagnoses trouble, tests, disconnects, removes, disassembles, repairs, reassembles (installing new parts as required or repairing defective parts), reinstalls, connects, calibrates, checks, and returns to service instruments including actuating connections and control equipment. The instruments and their actuating and control equipment may be electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, thermal, or any combination of these.As assigned, the incumbent trains apprentices.QualificationsThis position requires a thorough knowledge of the construction and operation of various types of instruments and associated control devices and the ability to calibrate and repair satisfactorily this type of equipment. It also requires a general knowledge of the processes which these instruments measure and control.The incumbent should have a high school education, and an Associates degree from an accredited college in Applied Electronics Engineering Technology, or Associates of Applied Science in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, or documented instrumentation and controls training while in the military and not less than 4 years of documented work experience in the field of Instrumentation and Controls.The incumbent must have completed an instrument mechanic apprenticeship program or its acceptable equivalent.A practical skills assessment will be administered that consists of print reading, troubleshooting of DC circuits, and/or troubleshooting of controls hardware common to the electric utility industry.May be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position/essential job functions, as well as home site access requirements.Supervision ReceivedThe incumbent will be under the direction of a regional crew or site foreman, and the indirect supervision by the regional crew or site first-line supervisor at the home location or in the field.
