Job Description

Operate ships gear crane and other specialized heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner with the objective of loading or unloading bulk cargo to or from a vessel. Selects and attaches appropriate lifting gear to loads according to size and weight of equipment and material to be lifted. Uses accepted industry practices for safe use of shackles, wire rope and synthetic slings as well as rigging inspection and rejection criteria. Operate a variety of material-moving equipment daily according to schedule and instructions from project manager, choosing and setting up the right crane, lift or hoist to complete each task safely and efficiently. Maintaining visual and radio contact with ground operators according to best practices and site safety regulations and respond to questions and instructions clearly and quickly.

The ideal candidate will have experience operating ship cranes in a remote area, loading and offloading bulk materials. Experience in various types of rigging from equipment lifts, break bulk materials such as heavy project cargo, turbines etc. A strong maritime background is preferred.

Job Duties:

Familiarity of Crane and Hoist operations required.

Responsible for the safe operation of the crane, as well as the safety of the gang on the ships and in the warehouse.

Responsible for the safe transloading of cargoes and commodities.

Report unsafe operations and behavior to the assigned production manager.

Insures the maintenance of the crane, including performing pre-job inspections and periodic maintenance.

Accomplishes work by operating equipment, observing varying conditions, adjusting equipment controls.

Maintains safe, secure and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with company policies and legal regulations.

Updates job knowledge by participating in training opportunities.

Travel out of town to work on remote job sites as directed by management.

Long hours of work.

Accomplishes operations and organizations mission by completing related results as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Skills/Qualifications:

Experience in a similar position in an industrial setting (preferred)

Thorough knowledge of rig operation and maintenance programs

Working Experience in the stevedoring/ warehousing industry (preferred)

Proficiency in equipment and terminal operation

Advocate of team concept

Flexible schedule; rotating shifts, days, nights, weekends and holidays as required

Work Environment:

Incumbent will work in all weather conditions ranging from warm/hot-cool/cold as well as occasional rain. Will work at different elevations, noise levels will be moderate-high. Job site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools.

Job Requirements:

Will be responsible for loading and unloading Ships.

Must have A TWIC card for entry to the Port.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Must pass Background and Drug Test

Must be willing to work inside the vessel when needed.

Must be available Monday-Sunday 10-12 hours shifts

Must have RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION to get to job sites.

Must be able to work in the heat, rain, or snow.

LACE WORK STEEL TOE BOOTS are required

Must be able to work, day shift and Night shift when needed
