Description
Our busy legal firm is looking for an efficient, organized Legal Assistant to help our attorneys and assist clients and ensure we’re operating efficiently. This is a position for someone who is independent and adapt at handling fast paced environment. You’ll assist with the preparation of legal documents, and handle all office correspondence including answering phone calls and emails, arranging client consultations, filing and indexing ECF notifications, and reminding the team of upcoming deadlines. Bankruptcy and personal injury experience a plus. Must be fluent in Spanish.
Responsibilities
Manage hearing calendars and pre-/post-hearing processing
Draft and e-file various motions, objections, responses, orders
Works closely with lead attorneys
Analyze case status, docket, and claims register activity
Monitor account status, payment history, application of funds, corporate advances, fees/cost
Must be a great problem solver
Process ECF notifications
Use daily time records to properly process client billing with support from the accounting department
Draft pleandings/schedules/correspondence
Undertake other duties as needed to ensure the firm operates efficiently
Manage office correspondence and administrative tasks such as answering phone calls, communicating with opposing attorney offices, taking dictation, responding to emails, and reminding the team of upcoming deadlines
Qualifications
Spanish required
Applicants must be able to type 50 words per minute or faster
Must be able to prioritize tasks with demanding deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment
Associate’s degree, or some college is preferred; high school diploma or equivalent is necessary
1-2 years of prior experience in a law firm environment as a secretary or administrative assistant
Proficient with MS Office products
Compensation
$15 - $20 hourly
