Safety Coordinator – Western Metals Recycling (Plymouth, UT)

Western Metals Recycling, a Nucor company, is hiring a Safety Coordinator in Plymouth, UT. This role plays a critical part in promoting and sustaining a culture where safety is valued above all else.

The Safety Coordinator provides professional safety and health support to teammates while helping the division achieve its safety, quality, cost, productivity, and profitability goals. This position partners with leadership and teammates to implement best practices, ensure regulatory compliance, and continuously improve workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities

Support and strengthen a culture focused on safety, loss prevention, and continuous improvement

Assist with implementation and maintenance of the division’s safety management system

Ensure compliance with state and federal safety regulations through audits and analysis

Develop, implement, and communicate safety and health programs and best practices

Assist with creating safe job analyses (SJAs) and safe job procedures

Identify training needs and deliver safety and health training

Participate in and/or lead safety focus teams and initiatives

Coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring activities

Lead and participate in Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) efforts

Serve as or train to become the Radiation Safety Officer

Actively uphold safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times

Requirements

Strong teamwork skills with the ability to build trust and alignment

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Leadership presence and willingness to address safety concerns directly

Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills

Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills

Dependability, accountability, and a strong sense of ownership

Proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with safety management systems in a steel manufacturing or industrial environment

Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field

Radiation Safety Officer certification or ability to obtain

OSHA 30-hour training

Certification to conduct OSHA training programs
