Experienced Framing Carpenter

Position: Experienced Framing Carpenter

Compensation: $30 to $40 per hour

Time: 40 hours per week; M-F 7:30 – 3:30

Location: Typically within 20 miles of Thetford Center, VT, occasionally up to 40 miles.

Benefits: 80 hours vacation time, 4 paid holidays, retirement plan, life and disability insurance, tool allowance, training/education allowance, volunteer time off.

Tasks (what you will be doing on a daily basis)

- Perform stud, joist and rafter layout

- Frame dimensional and i-joist floor systems

- Frame 2x4 and 2x6 walls, 16” or 24” on center

- Frame dimensional and truss roof systems

- Calculate and cut rafters (common, hip, jack, etc)

- Install and brace trusses

- Install structural hardware (hangers, caps, bases, etc)

- Frame rough stairs (calculate and cut stair stringers, etc)

- Air-seal assemblies as they are constructed (tape plywood seams, etc)

Typical materials:

- Dimensional lumber (SPF and PT)

- Roughsawn lumber (green hemlock)

- LVL, LSL and PSL engineered lumber

- Manufactured trusses

- Simpson hardware

- GRK fasteners

Required Skills (skills you must have to do this job):

- Ability to frame level, plumb, square, and straight

- Understanding of acceptable tolerances for rough carpentry

- Comfortable working outside

Additional Skills (nice but not required):

- Familiarity with double stud wall systems

- Familiarity with high performance air-sealing details

- Ability to operate machinery (telehandler, crane)

- Timber framing
