Refrigeration Lead Installer / Startup Technician (Commercial HVAC/R)

Role Overview
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced refrigeration professional to take a lead role in the installation and commissioning of commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems. The position includes overseeing field installations, mentoring junior installers, and ensuring all projects meet safety, quality, and compliance standards.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, takes pride in precision work, and enjoys leading and developing others in a team-based environment.
Key Responsibilities
Refrigeration Installation & Commissioning
Install line sets, branch boxes, indoor and outdoor units for one-to-one, multi-head, and VRF/VRV systems.
Perform brazing with nitrogen purging, pressure testing, triple evacuations, and system charging.
Complete full system startups and verify refrigerant levels, airflow, and performance.
Maintain accurate documentation for all installations and startups.
Leadership, Training & Quality Control
Mentor and support junior installers to promote skill development and consistency.
Review team members’ work for quality, safety, and accuracy.
Coordinate installation sequencing, materials, and layout for efficient execution.
Collaborate with project managers, engineering teams, and customers on project updates and startup results.
Safety & Compliance
Follow company safety protocols and OSHA guidelines.
Comply with EPA 608 standards and manufacturer specifications.
Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles in safe working condition.
Qualifications
Required
EPA 608 Certification (Type II or Universal)
3+ years of hands-on refrigeration or VRF/VRV installation experience
Strong brazing skills with nitrogen purging
Experience managing refrigeration line set installations
Experience with system evacuations, pressure testing, and charging
Ability to execute and document system startups
Leadership and mentorship capability
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Preferred
Manufacturer certifications (Daikin, Mitsubishi, LG, Fujitsu, etc.)
Commercial HVAC or mechanical contracting background
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics
