Job Description:Statement of PurposeThe Charge Nurse will collaborate with other healthcare providers in overseeing an ongoing comprehensive plan of care for a complex patient or groups of patient. Anticipates consequences of altered physiologic homeostasis and utilizes advanced skills to initiate early interventions. Participates in identifying, planning and implementing changes to improve unit operations and patient care outcomes. To act as resource while supporting and guiding nursing staff, support staff, patients and families on NCH medical surgical unit. Manages patient flow and placement throughout shift while communicating effectively with other departments.

Job RequirementsEducation: Graduate of a nursing program: diploma, associate degree, or baccalaureate program.Experience: 3 or more years of experienceLicense and Certificates Required: Valid and Current Vermont Registered Nurse License, Basic Life Support (BLS): Required for hire, Advanced Life Support (ACLS): OR, PACU, ICU, and ED (ASAP following hire; must be obtained within 1 year of hire), Neonatal Resitation Program (NRP): MCH (ASAP following hire; must be obtained within 1 year of hire), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): MCH (ASAP following hire; must be obtained within 1 year of hire)Reporting Relationships: Supervised By- Director of the assigned area, Supervision Of- Registered Nurses I, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Nurses’ Aides, Orderlies, Unit Secretary, and all others assigned to a specific patient care team including students from various Health care programs.Equipment Utilized: Electronic Medical Record, PC, Common Office Equipment, Patient equipmentappropriate to area/unit.
