Job AnnouncementThis position works as a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country. With over 425 parks, 23,000 acres of parkland, nine RECenters, eight golf courses, three lakefront parks, and more, FCPA is an exciting organization to be a part of and there are many opportunities for staff to make a difference at every level. Join a dynamic team as the equestrian manager of the Park Authority’s premier park, Frying Pan Farm Park in Herndon, VA. Park amenities include a 1930’s working farm, wedding/rental venue, equestrian facility, pre-school, and natural and cultural resources on the 135-acre site with over 700,000 visitors annually. Position includes coordination for the equestrian activities at Turner Farm and Laurel Hill. With supervision from the operations manager, assists in the coordination and implementation of all rentals, programs, special events, promotional materials, and volunteers associated with the equestrian facilities. Develops marketing and promotes the rental space to the public, including outside the equestrian community. Assists with the inspection of the equestrian facilities, amenities, and grounds. Performs maintenance duties as necessary, surface prep, stall cleaning, repairs, preventative maintenance of all facilities, mowing, trimming, and jump maintenance as appropriate. Budget assistance to include tracking budget expenditures and revenue projections and justifications. Helps to develop short- and long-term equestrian goals, strategies and plans for the equestrian facilities. Assists with recruiting, hiring, training and managing all equestrian staff and volunteers. As the equestrian manager, creates and maintains the equestrian calendar and works with user groups to rent the facilities. Maintains the emergency action plan for equestrian facilities and grounds. Assists in the administration of the facility operations such as conducting inventory, preparing administrative and financial reports, and assisting in the preparation of the annual operating budget;

Assists in the ordering and receiving of supplies;

Assists with the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of staff and volunteers;

Adheres to revenue and expense limits;

Ensures staff compliance with operating procedures and safety/security standards;

Informs the public of pertinent rules and regulations;

Directs residents to private and public resources and programs;

Assists in the development and implementation of community outreach plans to target

underserved populations and to increase overall program participation;

Delivers customer service by distributing literature and providing information;

Assists as a liaison between County agencies and residents.

Operations

Assists with providing operational support by supervising the maintenance of assigned facilities.

Programming

Assists with providing Parks/Recreation programming support by

developing and coordinating several specialized programs and special events;

Maintains records necessary to the operation and evaluation of programs.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation center and/or park management;

Knowledge of fiscal record keeping and inventory procedures;

Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software, and peripheral equipment;

Ability to direct and coordinate the work of subordinate staff and volunteers;

Ability to prepare a variety of administrative reports;

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, citizen groups, and the public;

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Employment StandardsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:Graduation from high school or a GED issued by a state department of education, plus two years of related experience in a recreation center, recreational park, or golf course operation or two years' experience organizing and coordinating public recreation activities or community affairs, as applicable to the position.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years' experience in an equestrian related facility

Two years' experience operating equipment to prepare the ring and setup for horse shows.

Graduate of an associate degree program with major course work in business, equestrian, parks and recreation or related field.

Experience with grounds and buildings maintenance and upkeep including use of tractor, utility vehicle, mowers.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:Driver's license (required)NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to bend, twist, turn, stand, sit and stoop. Ability to climb on and off equipment. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to operate grounds equipment. Ability to operate motor vehicle and trailer. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time. Ability to traverse uneven ground.
