Specialist in the Health Safety and Work-life Service Center,
responsible for providing technical expertise in occupational safety
and health (OSH) and risk management, responsible for providing
advice and guidance service-wide with an area of responsibility.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the
Coast Guard team.
Providing OSH subject matter expertise during audits,
assessments, and inspections, as assigned, at units throughout
the Coast Guard to identify, evaluate, and document
hazards/deficiencies and provide hazard control/mitigation
recommendations.
Providing proactive support and assistance to unit Permanent
Mishap Boards (PMB) to ensure proper mishap response, reporting
and analysis.
Managing all assigned OSH projects including planning,
execution, completion and following up to ensure on-time
delivery of updates, briefs, reports and other required products
for project milestone and deadlines.
Maintaining readiness and providing instruction/training to
employee on OSH topics including regulations, safe work
practices, and procedures appropriate to their work.
Conducting engineering/design plans and specification reviews in
coordination with requesting engineering and planning elements
for new facilities, modification with requesting engineering and
planning elements for new facilities, modifications to existing
facilities, and other construction plans to ensure conformance
with safety and occupational health regulations, policies,
standards and practices.
Serving as Content Leader and Integrated Process Team (IPT)
contributor as assigned for SHE TTP development and revisions.

Knowledge of occupational safety and health (OSH) and risk
management principles, concepts, laws, regulations, practices,
standards, and hazard control strategies related to diverse
activities, missions and diverse operational environments.
Knowledge of practical engineering methods and techniques, and
hazard analysis sufficient to evaluate and solve OSH problems
where standard methods are not readily applicable and where
problems encountered typically result from the need to modify a
wide variety of personal protective equipment, and to devise and
test safety controls for equipment.
Knowledge of the practical identification and control techniques
used for industrial hygiene and fire prevention engineering
sufficient to coordinate application of safety and occupational
health measures with specialists from these occupations.
Skill in identifying, recognizing, and evaluating occupational
health hazards assessing risks, and developing unit-specific,
economically feasible, corrective actions for deficiencies for
which standards may not exist or are inadequate and that impact
Coast Guard shore, aviation, vessel, and marine safety personnel
property; and dependents, contractors and visitors.
