Whatcom Community College welcomes applications for a Residence Life Operations Manager. The Residence Life Manager provides leadership and management to Whatcom Community College's (WCC) Cedar Hall Housing and Residence Life facilities. This position works directly with student residents and residence life staff to facilitate a sense of community and upkeep of Cedar Hall. Reporting to the Director for Residence Life, the Residence Life Manager strategically manages and supports all operational needs associated with on-campus housing, including innovative Residence Life Educational programming, services, and support to residents and the Residence Life team.

Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

-Assist Director for Residence Life in development, implementation, and assessment of residence life education programs; facilitate the development of a sense of community among the residents and staff.

-Attend and participate in department, staff, unit, division, and committee meetings.

-Work closely with students and staff to resolve complex student housing issues and staffing challenges.

-Collaborate with a variety of campus partners to develop and implement outcomes and strategies that assist students living in residence hall to adjust to WCC campus life.

-Collaborate with key campus departments that impact daily housing experiences for residents.

-Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of annual goals and objectives through the College's Service Improvement Plan process.

-Perform data retrieval and analysis to improve department processes and assess student housing demand on a quarterly and annual basis and make recommendations for adjustments to housing structure.

Administrative Responsibilities:

-Oversee invoiced charges, and rent collection in compliance with WCC Business Office procedures and student housing contracts.

-In coordination with Residence Life Coordinator and support staff, design and manage the housing selection process for new and returning students, provide tours, schedule move-in and move-out inspections, and coordinate cleaning with operations and facilities after each move-out.

-Maintain operating procedures, and operational work plans.

-Market and communicate appropriate information to students, potential residents, and key stakeholders.

-Ensure timely coordination for repairs with Resident Advisors, WCC maintenance staff, and/or contractor/vendors; manage furniture inventory and coordinate replacement schedule with Facilities.

-Coordinate and assist with move-in and move-out processes.

-Ensure tracking systems are in place and kept up-to-date for items such as access/key issuance, residential parking permits, and mail sorting.

-Assist in the development and implementation of conference and guest housing services and initiatives.

-Prepare and update residence life information, student handbook, and promotional materials.

-Participate in after-hours and weekend on-call duty rotation, when needed.

-Co-administer WCC's Housing Occupation Management System.

Housing Conduct & Safety:

-Communicate frequently with Campus Safety and Security as well as the Office for Community Standards to maintain consistent enforcement of policies and timely adjudication of violations of community standards.

-Ensure documentation of all incidents and violations of the housing contract and community standards.

-Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention when needed and deliver appropriate information for reporting and following up.

-Ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines, not limited to Title IX, Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Housing Act, Clery Act, and Office of Civil Rights.

-Assisting with on-site crisis, disaster, and emergency response in conjunction with the Director for Campus Safety and Emergency Preparedness and the Emergency Management Team.

-In coordination with the Office of the Vice President for Student Services, administer due process for contract violations and refer students to the student adjudication process.

-Proactively advocate for and seek support for students of concern by closely collaborating with resources and stakeholder across the campus and community. Evaluate and make suggestions for professional development, growth, and process improvement.

Supervision:

-Coordinate and manage front desk/customer service operations, including developing and enforcing staff procedures and managing residents.

-In collaboration with RL staff, coordinate, implement, and assess a comprehensive pre-move-in RA training program.

-Conduct weekly walk-through of the residence hall, assessing for safety issues and other areas of improvement.

Residence Life Education:

-Build and enhance close working relationships with all College departments and collaboratively link strategies to entry, progression, and completion for WCC's diverse student population.

-Promote standards of personal, organizational, and departmental integrity and respect for others.

-Collaborate with campus partners in development, implementation, and evaluation of culturally responsive, strengths-based Residence Life Educational programing.

-Create and maintain a supportive community that meets the needs of all WCC residents.

Other Duties:

-Perform other duties as assigned or delegated by the Director for Residence Life.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

-High school diploma.

-Experience developing and collaborating on programming, events,and activities.

-Experience with property management, residence life operations, or similar field.

Preferred Qualifications:

-One year of employment in student housing, property management, or related employment.

-Demonstrated experience in education or social services.

Salary:

-This is a 12-month, full-time Administrative/Exempt position. Exempt from Washington State civil service law with an annual salary based on a range of $59,725.00 - $64,250.00.

-This position is represented by the AFT (American Federation of Teachers) Washington Professional Staff Union.

Benefit Package:

-Accrues 8 hours per month of sick leave and 14.67 hours per month vacation leave.
