We need a part-time respite caregiver for our non-verbal, autistic 18 year old son. He is in school, and cared for at home by five members of our harmonious extended family. He is usually happy, sweet, very mellow and safe with others.
HOURS: 10-6 pm Sat/Sun, 4-8 PM on 2 weekdays. 4 hours of cleaning (dishes, sweeping, etc.) any time. 25 hours/wk guaranteed. Job may expand to full time, if desired, for the right person.
TASKS: Caring for and interacting with our son he watches disney movies, plays piano, plays in our hot tub and yard; driving him around our neighborhood (in one of our vehicles), assisting family members on outings (park, store, restaurant, etc.). Occasional help with toileting/bath.
ESSENTIAL: Kindness, patience, compassion, emotional intelligence and ability to manage occasional meltdowns ( once every 1-3 months). Patience with completely non-verbal person. Driver's license, references.
PREFERRED: Knowing how to play piano, prior experience with behavioral therapy and/or assisted communication device (iPad).
House is 8 blocks from light rail stop, 10 minutes to Columbia City services.
