George Broom Sons, Inc. was founded by George Broom Sr. in 1910. The company has sold custom tarps and ship supplies to commercial ships that fished and packed cargo up and down the Pacific. Over the last 114+ years the business has adapted the services offered with the ever changing landscape of the Commercial Fishing and Maritime Industries. Today we are a specialized manufacturer of custom vinyl covers, slings and rigging. Our customers depend on us for custom covers to protect critical equipment and provide the necessary lifting and rigging equipment to safely move and manage their cargo.
Summary:
This is an entry-level position and the ideal candidate would be interested in gaining hands-on practical experience that will build the foundation of knowledge to be used in many industrial disciplines. You will be responsible for assisting in aspects of the production of custom vinyl covers, lifting apparatuses, and rigging.
Essential Functions:
Able to understand and apply all safety procedures
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hi-vis clothing, hearing protection, safety glasses, and hard hat.
Maintain a safe and clean work area by completing general housekeeping tasks.
Make deliveries and material pickups with a company delivery truck locally.
Ability to lift, pull, push, and carry up to 50 pounds.
Assist in all stages of production including design, prep, layouts, cutting out patterns, sewing, and pulling fabric during assembly.
Package material for shipment by wrapping, palletizing, banding, labeling, etc.
Ability to accurately translate/draw pattern designs from design specification onto material.
Follow patterns and cut material using scissors and other cutting tools.
Proficiency in math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in units of measure. Additionally, you must be able to perform calculations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
Use of a Tape Measure, ability to add/subtract fractions efficiently (feet in a yard, what's 58' 10'' - 30' 6'', etc).
Requirements:
No experience necessary - we train on the job!
Must be 18 yrs of age
Must have reliable transportation to/from work
Must be able to work the scheduled shift which operates Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 5:30 pm. Overtime if needed.
Must have ability to stand, walk, squat, bend, kneel and use hands and arms to assist in the manufacturing process, cutting & assembly of all manufacturing materials for a 8 hour shift
Must be able to tolerate prolonged exposure to fluctuating noise and weather conditions in a warehouse environment for a 8 hour shift
Previous experience in non-office, fast-faced manual labor environments preferred.
Aptitude to learn mechanical skills as well as the production process.
Good eye/hand coordination.

Advancement encouraged: You will be trained to operate various types of large machines in a production environment in order to produce a product. Types of machines are (but not limited to) industrial sewing, hot air welding and radio frequency welders, grommet machines, and various hand and power tools.
Pay Rate:
$19-$22 per hour based on relevant work experience level. Skill based pay increases.
