Position DescriptionTacoma Police Department - Animal ControlThe Tacoma Police Department is establishing an eligible list for Administrative Assistant. This position provides administrative and operational support to the Animal Control Division of the Tacoma Police Department. This position is responsible for independently dispatching field officers to in-progress animal incidents or for follow up on incidents that occurred when no officer was available. Other responsibilities include researching calls and complaints to keep officers aware of any potential issues concerning a complaint and proactively resolving various animal control issues by educating citizens about the laws and processes and procedures used by animal control when responding to complaints. These interactions may be sensitive and/or emotional in nature so de-escalation is key.This position works autonomously and is responsible for decision making that requires critical thinking and knowledge of specialized and complex rules to resolve issues that may be sensitive in nature, contain risk factors and are highly visible to the public.The Administrative Assistant also manages all administrative functions within Animal Control, including creation and maintenance of administrative processes and procedures and reporting functions, as well as handle confidential materials, assist with projects or programs, and coordinate work within a department, between departments, and with the public and/or other governmental entities.City of Tacoma Commitment to Diversity and InclusionTacoma's diversity is its greatest asset. Individuals must pass a background check and may requi re incumbents to successfully pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check.

Positions assigned to or supporting the Tacoma Police Department may require additional background screening, including, but not limited to, fingerprinting and/or a polygraph test.

Ability to learn City and governmental policies and procedures regarding area assigned

Knowledge of accounting support techniques
