The populations served are single women, couples with a female head of household, and people over 55. Bertha’s Place shelters are secure access 24-hour/7-day a week low barrier shelters with the primary goal of helping support program participants regain permanent housing. The Evening Shift Supervisor for the Bertha’s Place and Bertha’s Place Too shelters is responsible for the evening management and operation of the shelter, 7 days a week, in accordance with the mission and policies of Catholic Community Services. The position oversees evening shelter operations, supervises site staff, ensures compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements, and is accountable for sound management of resources and achievement of key performance indicators of the program. Responsibilities

Shelter Responsibilities

Ensure the safety and security of employees and guests, and our neighborhood. Respond daily to crises for the shelter during evenings and scheduled on-call hours.

Coordinate with Program Manager and other Supervisors to ensure consistent program rules, a positive culture of teamwork, and performance.

Supervise and ensure all shelter duties are completed by staff; to include data entry, reporting, HMIS registration, intake interviews, file maintenance, cleaning & laundry.

Oversee and provide behavioral management by helping guests to resolve conflicts and make pro-social choices.

Oversee the Ban process and ensure that the Ban is appropriate for the situation, written timely, factual, and behaviorally descriptive.

Participate in covering on-call needs for the shelter so that if there is an emergency a Supervisor can be reached for consultation in coordination with other Supervisors and the Program Manager.

Staff Supervision

Recruit, train, & schedule site staff. Conduct annual performance reviews with staff.

Supervise and coordinate schedule for Lead Program Generalists,and Program Generalists.

Promote ongoing training and support, and ensure attendance at all CCS mandatory trainings for site employees.

Develop and ensure the safekeeping of a workplace that values and supports a culturally and ethnically diverse work environment.

Safety and Sanitation

Ensure that appropriate safety and sanitation procedures are being followed by regularly inspecting the facility for cleanliness and safety.

System-wide collaboration

Work collaboratively with other CCS programs to ensure mental health and other support services are available to staff and guests.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications

A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience or 2 years’ experience in a lead capacity working with homeless individuals.

Previous experience with diverse population including people with active mental health and chemical dependency issues.

Availability to work flexible hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends).

Ability and willingness to work in a team environment and promote a positive team spirit.

Excellent inter-personnel skills including excellent oral and written communication skills

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and database experience

Ability to work with a diverse spectrum of high-need individuals

Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment.

Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Proof of negative TB test within past 12 months.

Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.

Must have an acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy. (required to provide current driving abstract)

Preferred Qualifications

BA in social services or related field.

Experience working with complex databases and running reports from those databases.
