After 30 years of public school teaching at the elementary level, I am now retired and looking to become a reading tutor. I am a Reading Specialist, obtaining my master's degree in reading from CWU. I was a reading coach in the elementary schools for eight years, coaching students with all kinds of reading difficulties. My system is to first diagnose, then set up a remedial reading program that works for that particular student. I can help with phonics, sight words, fluency, syllabication, word attack, context clues, comprehension, etc. I am not committed to a specific method or program, I'm committed to teaching the student how s/he learns beast. I can instruct online, in person or both. I am friendly, engaging and fun.
I charge $50 a session. A session includes working with the student for an hour or until saturation sets in (each student lasts only so long depending on age, maturity, attention span, etc.). The unspent direct-student time would be filled with lesson planning, creating materials that work specifically for that student, emailing follow-up home-support activities based on the skills we are working on, and communicating with the parent.
Your first session would be billed at half-price ($25) to see if I am a good fit for your students' needs (payment must be by VENMO prior to session).
