Recruitment Description:
The City of Ellensburg has a vacancy for a temporary groundperson. This is a temporary, non-benefited position that will work under the general direction of the Line Crew Foreperson or Serviceperson, and will perform various tasks related to the construction duties of the Citys electric utility. Duties include manually digging holes for poles when necessary; fasten crossarm hardware to poles before setting poles; stretch & fasten guy wires to ground anchors; splice wire, rope and rig tackle; flag traffic & set up traffic cones & signs; install various sizes and types of conduit in trench and other duties as assigned.
Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
This position is expected to last up to six (6) months. Paid sick leave is earned at a rate of one (1) hour for every paid forty (40) hours worked. Employees are eligible to begin using accrued paid sick leave on the ninetieth (90th) calendar day after the commencement of his/her employment.

Salary: $28.26/hour, 40 hours week. No benefits
Qualifications:
High School diploma or G.E.D. with 1 year of high school algebra with at least a C average; previous experience in an electric utility environment is preferred but not required. Must possess a valid State drivers license including class A CDL with air brakes or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment; First aid/CPR certification, flagging card; forklift certification. Must maintain insurable driving record.
Special Requirements:
Employees who operate commercial vehicles and hold a CDL are subject to drug testing which includes pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and return to duty
