The SLP is responsible for performing age-specific assessment designed to gather data relevant to the patient's individual needs. This includes assessment and evaluation of speech, language, cognitive/communication disorders and swallowing dysfunction as prescribed by a licensed physician. The SLP develops a plan of care, performs treatment as indicated, assesses patients' response to treatment, and assists with discharge planning. The SLP utilizes equipment, materials, and devises and/or adapts treatment strategies to maximize a patient's swallow function and/or communication potential. The SLP provides education related to the diagnosis, prognosis, and plan of care of the communication disorder to the patient, family/caregiver and other members of the healthcare team. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. The SLP will coordinate, delegate, and supervise responsibilities assigned to supportive staff (Rehabilitation Techs, LATs, etc.). The SLP may be asked to create and participate in Community Engagement activities that focus on education/support groups. The SLP will participate in operational and performance improvement aspects of the department. The SLP will maintain awareness of budgetary and fiscal responsibility as it pertains to wages, overtime, productivity, and continuing education. The SLP will ensure that documentation is complete and charges are accurately entered on a timely basis. The SLP will participate in all mandated departmental and organizational educational programs.QualificationsObtained, or eligible to obtain, a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited Educational Institution. Eligibility for Clinical Fellowship is required and prior experience is preferred. Additional languages preferred. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Basic computer knowledge. Knowledge of principals and practice of Speech Pathology. Knowledge of equipment utilized in the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of speech pathology. Decision making and problem solving. Team building. Speech/Language Pathology Licensed or eligible for Speech/Language Pathology License, in the state of Wisconsin. Certificate of Clinical Competence or be eligible for Clinical Fellowship granted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Current BLS of Health Care Providers certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
