Writing Center Consultants assist students with writing needs ranging from thesis development, brainstorming, citations, formatting, essays, lab reports, scholarship and cover letters to proposals. Consultants are knowledgeable on the writing process and how to teach skills to foster a writer’s growth.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility:
- Guide and mentor peer student consultants
- Learn and apply pedagogy and protocol that adheres to SC Writing Center standards
Reports To Academic Services Librarian
Education/Qualifications
Completion of ENGL 1010
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Personable, reliable, confident, and able to work independently
Competency with MLA and APA formatting and writing styles to include argumentative, narrative, persuasive, informative, technical, and instructional
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Ability to work in an environment that is service- and people-oriented
Aptitude for generating positive learning outcomes from one-on-one interactions with peers
Proficiency in establishing good rapport with clients, colleagues and faculty members
Sufficient training in Writing Center pedagogy and procedures is provided during orientation

Experience
Instructional or college-level academic support experience
Writing Center experience preferred
