Job Description:

Facilities Management, Polytechnic campus, seeks HVAC Technicians to perform preventive maintenance, repair, overhaul and maintain heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration systems.

Essential Duties:

HVAC Technician I

Perform preventive maintenance tasks (e.g., filter and belt replacement)

Perform equipment diagnostics and repairs

Interpret HVAC schematics and wiring diagrams

Document work performed and ensure compliance with safety procedures

Support on-call duties and emergency response

Work under the guidance of senior staff

HVAC Technician II

Perform repairs on chillers, boilers, air handlers, compressors, and controls

Conduct preventive maintenance, system diagnostics, and performance tests

Support on-call duties and emergency response

Train and mentor junior technicians as needed

Maintain accurate service logs and reports

DAYS AND SCHEDULE

Monday – Friday, 6:30am – 3:30 pm

This position is based on the Polytechnic campus however may require working from other campuses depending on operational need.

SALARY RANGES

HVAC Technician I: $26.00- 30.00 per hour. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.

HVAC Technician II: $30.01- 34.00 per hour. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona

Desired Qualifications:

HVAC Technician I

Minimum Qualifications

0-2 years HVAC or facilities experience

High school diploma

Must obtain CFC certification within 6 months

Valid Arizona driver’s license

Desired Qualifications

Basic HVAC knowledge: air handlers, VAVs, exhaust systems, DX units

Competency with hand tools and basic diagnostic equipment

Ability to work safely with refrigerants and tools

HVAC Technician II

Minimum Qualifications

3–6 years of HVAC experience

EPA Universal CFC Certification

Associate degree or equivalent technical experience toward the required experience

Valid Arizona driver's license

Desired Qualifications

Strong understanding of HVAC systems and controls

Ability to read and interpret complex schematics and as-builts

Proficiency in troubleshooting and using digital instrumentation

Familiarity with chilled water systems, DX equipment, and airflow mechanics

Working Environment:

Utilize power tools (e.g. drills, generators, saws, lifts, vacuum equipment).

Climb ladders, ladder wells, and stairs.

Work off ladders using hand tools and power tools to include working off lift platforms and boom trucks at heights above six feet.

Use lifting, moving, and rigging equipment to safely move, transfer, or relocate heavy equipment.

Operate refrigeration recovery equipment in compliance with EPA guidelines.

Handle CFC refrigerant.

Work in adverse working conditions such as confined spaces (e.g. tunnels, man holes, vaults), dirty areas, low lighting, and extreme temperatures.

Stoop, bend, and reach.

Walk throughout campus.

Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.

Must pass pre-employment physical examination post offer of employment to include asbestos worker clearance, respiratory clearance questionnaire, respiratory fit test, and audiogram exam.

This position requires working a rotating on-call/stand-by schedule and may be called in for emergency response including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Driving Requirement:

This position may require driving. Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.
