Working in conjunction with Illumination Foundation providers, IFMG removes barriers to healthcare by offering outpatient primary care services to clients who are currently occupants located at Illumination Foundation sites throughout various counties in Southern California. Job Description TheMedical Coordination Assistantis responsible for assisting the providers in providing care to their patients. Their duties include performing basic technical, administrative, and clerical support services. Hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00 per hour, depending on experience. Responsibilities Administrative/Clerical:
Obtain consult notes, radiology results, and lab results
Providing the clinicians with results as soon as they become available
Answer telephones, schedules appointments, and handle front - office responsibilities as needed, especially while at other sites
Verifying patients insurance prior to visit and informing provider with information
Ensuring that assigned EMR clinical inboxes are cleared once a week
Clinical / Medical Duties:
Set up exam rooms prior to patient entry, ensuring all necessary supplies are stocked and available
Prepare, provide, and maintain patients' medical records/charts for clinician, nurse practitioner
Assist nurse practitioners and doctors with examinations and other procedures relating to direct patient care, chaperoning, and other procedures
Perform and record information on patients' vital signs, vision screening and other history
Chart basic patient history, includes history of present illness or complaint, and past medical, family, and social history, perform surveys as requested
Obtain, collect and label blood, urine and other specimens in accordance with regulations and patient policy; package and send specimens in the appropriate manner for transport to laboratories or storage
Venipuncture for lab specimens of blood, give subcutaneous, oral or intramuscular injections of medication, and administering vaccines, after checking doses with provider
Provide information to patients relating to referrals, follow up appointments, and explain and obtain necessary consents and authorizations
Monitor inventory of medical supplies
Clean/sterilize all used equipment, dispose of all specimens and waste according to health and safety guidelines
Ensure all documentation regarding tests, specimens, and supplies are completed and maintained in accordance with clinic procedures and requirements
Call in medication refills to pharmacy for prescriptions when there is no change to dosage or medication if asked by provider
When answering calls determine if the solution can be handled within your scope of practice (i.e. are there refills at pharmacy). If not, leave a case note for clinician with information needed
Answer all case notes from clinicians within 24 hours and return to clinician
Do not triage patients by illness, provider is to determine appropriate patient care, unless in an emergency find clinician, or if appropriate call 911
Compliance/Safety:
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and DHS standards.
Provide clients with proper compliance forms upon admission to maintain client compliance with program rules.
Provide care utilizing infection control measures that protect both the staff and the client according to OSHA standards.
Conduct medication reconciliation and ensure proper disposal and pickup of bio-medical/pharmaceutical waste.
Maintain a safe work environment by ensuring the cleanliness of the med room, wound care room, and med storage room.
Ensure medical equipment remains in operating conditions.
Preferred Experience/Minimum Qualifications
Required:
MA/EMT Certification
Associate degree in a medical field
2+ years of working in the healthcare field
Strong verbal and written skills
Superior customer service skills
High level of professionalism
Preferred:
Bilingual English and Spanish
