Operations Manager – Water Systems & External Relations (Agricultural)
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the hands-on operation of our agricultural water delivery systems while also serving as a key leader and external representative of the organization. This role requires someone equally comfortable in the field, the boardroom, and public/regulatory settings.
Key Responsibilities
Manage daily, hands-on operations of surface water and pumping systems
Oversee maintenance and performance of pumps, valves, electrical systems, canals, and reservoirs
Ensure consistent, efficient water delivery to agricultural members
Maintain accurate water usage records and oversee regulatory reporting
Ensure compliance with California water regulations, including SGMA
Represent the organization at regulatory hearings, public meetings, and stakeholder forums
Lead budgeting, financial planning, and oversight of a $9M annual budget
Work closely with the Board of Directors on operations, planning, water policy, and long-term strategy
Build strong relationships with landowners, agencies, and external partners
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Water Resources, Environmental Science, or equivalent experience
7–10+ years of experience in water systems, engineering, or agricultural operations
Strong hands-on knowledge of pumps, electrical systems, and canal infrastructure
Proven experience managing operations and representing an organization externally
Working knowledge of California water law and SGMA compliance
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
Spanish proficiency strongly preferred
