The TAPS Transit Operation provides safe and reliable services for a campus population of approximately 18,000 students, as well as staff, faculty, and campus visitors. The campus shuttle system carries an average of 12,500 riders per day during each academic quarter. The Transit Operation also operates an on-campus paratransit program, charter services, a bike shuttle, and a late-night Night Owl service on weekends that travels between the campus and downtown Santa Cruz.More information can be found at: https://https://taps.ucsc.edu/buses-shuttles/index.htmlJOB SUMMARYThis position is one of three Assistant Transit Managers in the Campus Transit Operation. Primary duties include scheduling over 40 professional drivers; monitoring service and drivers throughout the day; adjust shifts and staffing as necessary; oversight of Transit Assistant and Disability Van Service; interact with TAPS mechanic and campus Fleet Services personnel; assist with quarterly driver bid and safety training processes and procedures; write and deliver annual performance evaluations; audit driver time sheets each day; calculate and post daily passenger totals; ensure driver time sheets each day; calculate and post daily passenger totals; ensure driver adherence to department and federal; yard management including vehicle flow, parking, and charging; operate and monitor softwares and dashboards related to transit operations such as video-based safety systems, vehicle telematics and load management systems; drive to fill shifts as needed. License must not be restricted to vehicles 15 passengers or less including the driver, but must certify individual to drive passenger vehicles weighing more than 26, 001 gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) and carrying 20 passengers or more including the driver (DMV CLASS B LICENSE WITH PASSENGER ENDORSEMENT).Air Brake Certified.Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.The selected candidate will be required to work all scheduled hours on-site.Ability to work a variable schedule including evenings and weekends.Ability to respond to emergencies after hours as necessary.Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.Current Medical Examiner's Certificate (Form MCSA-5875).Will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
