We are seeking a skilled Senior Property Accountant to support our growing team. This position will involve accounting for a diverse portfolio of properties, including multifamily units, commercial spaces, parking garages, and office buildings. The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for all aspects of property accounting, from bank reconciliations to software implementation and general financial reporting. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Controller, entry-level staff, and other team members to oversee financial processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. As the Controller prepares for retirement, this position will play a key role in the transition and long-term success of the accounting team.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the accounting for a portfolio of properties in the Bay Area, working closely with the Controller and supporting property management teams.
Perform monthly and year-end financial closing, including complex account reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
Manage bank reconciliations and ensure the timely payment of property-related fees, mortgages, taxes, and reserves.
Assist with budgeting processes and help implement improvements to accounting workflows, including software implementation.
Collaborate with property managers to ensure all accounting functions are completed on time, including monthly financial reporting, tax filings, and audit schedules.
Participate in cross-functional projects and contribute to the development of business processes.
Provide ad-hoc accounting support during peak times, particularly around tax season.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
3-5 years of property management accounting experience, including multifamily and commercial properties.
Comfortable handling all aspects of property accounting, including bank reconciliations, general accounting, and software implementation.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
This is a full-time, onsite position located in Richmond.
