Under the direction of a supervisor, conduct factual and legal research and provide written analyses to address issues pertaining to the Section’s rule making, coordination, or technical assistance responsibilities.

Under the direction of a supervisor, performs legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; writes preliminary drafts of legal memoranda and correspondence.

May require travel for trial support.

Expected to become very familiar Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1991, the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008.

Pleasant phone manner and the ability to interview potentially aggrieved persons about traumatic experiences in a professional, thorough, and sensitive manner is critical.

Candidate must be able to perform detailed searches of court records and other public records utilizing online databases and services such as LexisNexis.

Familiarity with methods for researching people, property ownership, and/or business entities is preferable.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

Paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted.

This position places a premium on the ability to write well. In applying the facts to the legal analysis, the writing must be logical, persuasive, and sufficiently thorough to leave the reader with the firm feeling that the correct decision has been reached.

Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures and legal resources.

Excellent writing skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as Lexis, Westlaw.

Familiarity and experience with Relativity, Excel, Word, Zoom, Teams, PowerPoint, and social media research highly valued.

Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working with federal civil rights statutes.

Will consider candidates with extensive litigation support experience coupled with Paralegal certificate.
