JOB DESCRIPTION:

Faculty is responsible for teaching in Associate of Applied in Nursing Degree and Practical Nursing Programs.

Faculty members are required to develop new courses and interact with peers to build/revise curricula and participate in accreditation-related tasks.

Faculty members must participate in recruitment and retention efforts and be responsible for academic advisement and registration, maintain office hours, participate in committee assignments, and perform other related administrative duties.

Faculty members are required to participate in a curriculum design, development, and evaluation.

Faculty Responsibilities

Each Faculty member will receive an employee handbook, a student catalog and handbook, and a job description upon hire.

It is the faculty members' responsibility to be familiar with the general and academic policies of Saint Michael College of Allied Health and to maintain these policies in their classroom.

Faculty members are required to develop new courses and interact with peers to build/revise curricula and participate in accreditation-related tasks.

Faculty members are required to participate in recruitment and retention efforts and are responsible for academic advisement and registration, maintain office hours, participate in committee assignments, and perform other related administrative duties.

Faculty members are required to participate in a curriculum design, development, and evaluation to ensure quality learning experiences are provided for all students.

Faculty members are required to participate in the governance of the School and the academic programs and short-term School planning activities.

All faculty members are required to possess academic, scholarly, and teaching qualifications prerequisite to their respective positions and teaching assignments.

Classroom responsibilities

To prepare students for the high ethical standards of nursing, the School expects absolute academic integrity both in the classroom and in the clinical setting.

Cheating, plagiarizing, stealing academic work, which includes secured tests and related materials, submitting papers written by others, or failing to report an occurrence of academic dishonesty, may subject the student to the School's disciplinary procedures as outlined in the student handbook

The faculty is directly responsible for taking attendance, identifying students who miss more than 10% of theory, and keeping students apprised of their attendance status in each course.

Quiz and Unit Exam grades are kept and calculated on a computer worksheet during each course.

Faculty must review student grades after three units and midway through each course and counsel students who are doing poorly.

A student progress report will be completed and submitted to the President or Program Director, who will review it and file it into the student file.

Each Faculty member is responsible for submitting grades for homework and attendance at the end of each course, calculated into the final course grade.

Test review is a privilege left to the discretion of the individual instructors.

It is not an obligation, nor is it mandatory. However, instructors review tests to enhance the students learning experience through discussion of answer options.

If the particular test is not done, faculty is expected to review an item analysis of the test and review concepts that were not grasped by the majority of students in the class.

Each faculty member is expected to be available two days each week to meet with students and give remedial help. (Office Hours: Day Program 3:30 PM-4:30PM & Evening Program: 3:00pm-5:00PM)

While each instructor has the ultimate responsibility for their assigned class when a class is split and two classes are held simultaneously, the administration will assign a course co-coordinator to ensure continuity of information presented. In addition, faculty are expected to write quizzes and contribute to the unit and final exams in any course they teach.

Curriculum responsibilities

Faculty will review the course syllabus at the end of each course taught and evaluated the appropriateness of the content and materials being taught and the content presentation methods.

Faculty will use self-evaluation and student evaluation of the course to determine if curriculum changes are needed.

Faculty will attend regularly scheduled faculty/curriculum meetings and participate monthly in the systematic evaluation plan.

Faculty may be assigned to rotate on Admission and Academic Committees.

Faculty Development

Each faculty's responsibility is to obtain CEU's every year, which applies to education or the areas being taught.

Saint Michael School of Allied Health will encourage faculty development by offering to send each full/part-time instructor to a professional program once every two years.

SMCAH will pay the faculty for the day for pre-approved CEU programs.

Performance Evaluation of Employees

SMCAH shall conduct formal performance evaluation at the end of the introductory period, and annual informal performance evaluation is performed on an ongoing basis by feedback from supervisors, students, and others.

Professional Organizations

Because participation in professional organizations and programs is important to developing nursing and nursing education, faculty are asked to join one professional nursing organization.

Code of Ethics for School Administration

Saint Michael School of Health management is expected to uphold high ideas in support of the mission and objectives of the college.

Faculty members must perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director and work within the program's mission and goals of nursing education.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

1. The minimum requirement is Graduate Degree in English Language.

2. Must know teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development and course evaluation.
