City of Jacksonville employees are also eligible for Federal Student Loan Forgiveness after 10 years of public service and on-time payments.This is fleet maintenance support work operating and maintaining a garage complex, transporting equipment and personnel, and establishing and maintaining service and inventory records. Work requires a knowledge of uninvolved, standardized work routines used in maintaining garage facilities which involves the use of common equipment or uncomplicated machinery. Contacts require courtesy, tact, and effectiveness in dealing with others, and includes contacts to request or provide information, ask questions, or obtain clarification. Work is performed following established routines, procedures, and standing instructions, and is patterned involving similar situations and generally requiring only the choice of the correct procedure. Work is normally performed in a service garage environment where risks and hazards are substantial, but are known, somewhat predictable and mostly controllable. Worker may operate automotive equipment and standard hand tools and equipment associated with the operation and maintenance of a garage complex. Physical demands consist mainly of moving from one work location to another, sitting, or standing at a workstation for extended periods of time; and, dependent upon assigned work location, may be required to lift, or move objects weighing 50 pounds or more. Work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are subject to instructions and established work routines, and the worker is given latitude to rearrange the sequence based on changing work situations, or workflow. Examples of Work

Performs preventive maintenance general services relating to Fleet operations and maintenance on automotive and heavy equipment to include lubricating equipment; removing and replacing motor oil and oil filters; inspecting, removing, and reinstalling tires; replacing batteries, windshield wiper blades and fan belts; and washing and cleaning vehicles, equipment, and tools.

Establishes and maintains maintenance service records.

Establishes and maintains inventory records.

Receives merchandise and verifies against purchase orders and invoices.

Cleans, washes, and maintains assigned work locations.

May operate automotive and heavy equipment for the purpose of moving from one repair and maintenance area to another.

Operates motor vehicles for the purpose of transporting supplies, equipment, and personnel.

Operates two-way radio systems.

Operates forklift to move supplies.

Washes and cleans vehicles.

Performs maintenance of a garage complex and on associated equipment.

Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville’s competencies.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of name, location and function of basic parts and systems of automotive and heavy equipment.

Knowledge of standard hand tools and equipment used in the preventive maintenance of automotive and heavy equipment a garage complex and on associated equipment.

Ability to perform preventive maintenance of a garage complex and on associated equipment maintenance services on automotive and heavy equipment including lubricating, removing, and replacing motor oil and oil filters, and removing and reinstalling tires.

Ability to establish and maintain maintenance service records.

Ability to establish and maintain inventory records.

Ability to operate motor vehicle to transport supplies, equipment, and personnel.

Ability to operate automotive and heavy equipment with a gross vehicle weight rating of 8,000 pounds or more but less than 26,000 pounds.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to perform arithmetic computations.

Ability to lift and move objects weighing 50 pounds or more.

Preferred

Experience working in maintenance and/or a garage.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

A valid driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.

A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with P Endorsement depending on assignment may be required and must be maintained during employment in this class.

A valid Class C Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with P Endorsement depending on assignment may be required and must be maintained during employment in this class.

Class IV Forklift Certification is required to be obtained within probation period and maintained during employment.

Must qualify for prior to appointment, obtain, and maintain during employment in this class a City of Jacksonville Certification as a Public Driver.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The probationary period for this class is six months.

This classification performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to pre-employment, random and other drug/alcohol testing programs as set forth in the City of Jacksonville’s Drug Free Workplace Policy (0401).
