Job Title: Senior – Substation Project EngineerLocation: Juno Beach, FL 33408Duration: 12+ months contract with potential extends or ConvertJob Description:Employees in this role lead a team of engineers and technical specialists that perform engineeringfunctions.This job is responsible for applying diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to abroad variety of assignments and related fields. Employees in this role evaluate, select, and applystandard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventionalrenewable generation substation projects. This role provides direction on projects to the department orproject team members.Travel between worksites and other locations is an essential job function and expectation of the position.You must hold a valid driver's license. Selected candidates will be expected to spend a portion of theirtime attending meetings at other worksites or in the field. Those selected for a Substation projectengineering position will occasionally be required to drive to various renewable generation substationsprojects across Florida.Responsibilities:· All assigned renewable generation substation projects from conception (Early Stage) throughconstruction and commissioning (Execution).· In the conceptual phase, you will work with the Early-Stage Project Manager to support theengineering requirements and scope with the Development Group. Projects can begin as FERC1000 competitive transmission project proposals, or as greenfield projects for NEE affiliates· Plans, coordinates, and completes large-scale or several medium or small, complex, or long-termproject(s) within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.· Develops detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports.· Secures required resources and uses formal processes and tools to manage resources, budgets,risks, and changes.· Conducts project meetings and is responsible for project tracking and analysis.· Identifies issues and challenges, measures, and validates results, and implements solutions.· Provides information to internal and external clients on moderate to complex issues.· Creates and communicates presentation materials for report out and updates with various levelsof internal and external stakeholders.· Training, due diligence, and technical oversight of external engineers of record (EOR) for allassigned substation projects to ensure compliance with required generation interconnectionagreements, scope of work documents, project specifications, site specific design requirements,IEEE, NESC, ASCE and all other applicable industry codes and standards.· Securing engineering consulting resources from a list of approved suppliers by developing ascope of work, securing bids, evaluating, and awarding work through NEE Integrated SupplyChain (ISC) Group.· Coordinate with other project stakeholders to develop and secure a substation site, support anyengineering updates, data and permits necessary to design and build the substation.· Competitively source, select and contracting geotechnical, survey, engineering, and constructionservices, and supporting the E&C Cost Estimating Team with scope assumptions.· Coordinating the engineering deliverables in support of FERC Order 1000 competitive request forproposals, as well as the design and construction of awarded projects. Deliverables includeScope of work documents, Issued for Bid, Issued for Procurement, Issued for Construction,design criteria and As-built drawings.· Coordination with other groups to ensure that the assigned E&C renewable generation substationprojects are successful. Generally responsible for representing E&C’s internal and externalinterests on assigned projects, including presentations/briefing on current progress, issues, andrisk mitigation in meetings with various levels of management.· Support Transmission Services during review of interconnection documentation including systemimpact studies, facility studies, reactive and harmonic studies and Interconnection agreementsand ensures that Transmission Owner requirements and E&C engineering design are consistentand in compliance with all ISO requirements and incorporated into the project design. Must beable to work with and communicate often to the respective transmission owners/operators/ISOsto ensure project deliverables will meet specific off-taker requirements, are timely and accurate.· Manage all project long lead major material orders to minimize risk of delays or exceeding theproject budget. Assists ISC with all substation project SOW creation, review, approval, andpreparation of shopping carts for engineering services and materials in a timely manner.· Support E&C Estimating with template update via project feedback, technical support, and scopemodifications.· Works collaboratively with project engineering resources in various disciplines to determineproject priorities, work plans and lines of demarcation.· Ensures projects are efficiently, cost effectively and safely implemented in accordance withdepartment process, procedures, industry standards and policies.· Support assigned project commissioning activities to meet corporate objectives.· Support Legal in any regulatory filings, depositions and/or hearings.· Collaborate with component OEMs to enhance/adapt their designs to better integrate withphilosophies.· Conducts external research and stays abreast of new developments or innovative advancementspertaining to the project.· Provides coaching, leadership, and direction to project teams.· Performs other job-related duties as assig.Experience:· 5+ years’ experience in Substation design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects ishighly preferred.· Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience with a strong bias for action.
