DEPARTMENT ADDENDUMDepartment Specific FunctionsThe research assistant 1 (A) will support research activities under the direction of the principal investigator (Sara St George PhD). Dr. St George’s program of research is focused on promoting health, preventing chronic disease, and fostering positive relationships among Hispanic families by developing, evaluating, and disseminating evidence-based multigenerational digital lifestyle interventions.The position is part-time (hourly), with remote, in-person presence at the Miller School of Medicine at the Medical Campus of University of Miami and in-person presence at multiple recruitment sites (e.g. Clinics, MDC Schools, Community Events, etc.).Ongoing projects in the lab which the RA would support are:

Healthy Juntos: This is an efficacy trial of a family-based digital obesity prevention intervention (“Healthy Juntos”) for Hispanic parents and their 12–15-year-old adolescents. Healthy Juntos is a web-based application that includes eleven modules of content for parents and adolescents delivered over six months. Eligible families who chose to participate in the study will be randomly assigned to either use our family health app or receive free digital health resources.

Con Cariño Abuelita: This is a pilot study of a multi-generational family-based digital cancer and obesity prevention intervention (“Con Cariño Abuelita”) for Hispanic cancer survivors and their daughters/daughter’s in-law. Con Cariño Abuelita is a web-based application that includes eight modules of content delivered over three months. Eligible families who chose to participate in the study will be randomly assigned to either use our family health app or receive free digital health resources.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

Assist across the lab with recruitment activities such as phone calls, screen potential participants, scheduling consent and data collection appointments.

Assist with administrative recruitment tasks (e.g. drafting and translating flyers).

Attend community events, and recruitment venues to actively recruit in the community for research lab projects.

Attend corresponding training sessions to keep up to date on each one of the project procedures.

Conduct screening and consent appointments.

Assist with data collection (e.g. height, weight, body composition, waist circumference, etc.)

Document as required all contact with participants and data collection activities.

Attend weekly lab meetings and project-specific meetings.

Provide weekly reports on recruitment and enrolling calls, duties and responsibilities.

Assist with intervention development tasks (e.g. recordings, video editing, cooking, etc.).

Supporting adherence to Miller School of Medicine procedures for human subjects’ research.
