The successful candidate will contribute to the research by performing, with minimal or no supervision, a range of research related tasks including preparation, sampling, data collection and analysis and preparation of results and reports, as well as performing complex experiments with multiple mechanistic measurements. The successful candidate will analyze and prepare results for lab meetings, NIH / FDA progress reports, and publications, be able to trouble shoot experiments, as well as advise and help trouble shoot experiments for junior laboratory members.Independently setting up, maintaining, and monitoring complex equipment for a range of biochemical experiments (with minimal supervision), to include: Independently implements, conducts and monitors standard and advanced biochemical experiments to quantitate receptor binding of antibiotics to their target receptors, isolation and purification of membranes, proteins, and other biomolecules and cell components, and related techniques. Trains and advises other lab members in the performance and setup of standard and complex biochemical experiments and their data analysis. Consults with researchers (e.g. PhDs and investigators) regarding laboratory procedures and experiments. Employ a toolbox of in vitro assays to study antibiotic synergy using viable counting and mechanistic endpoints. Analyzes experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of biochemical findings for lab meetings, NIH progress reports, and publications. Prepares Graphs and Tables in publication quality.Independently setting up, maintaining, and monitoring complex equipment for a range of microbiological experiments (with minimal supervision), to include: Independently implements, conducts and monitors standard and advanced experiments such as dynamic in vitro infection models, biofilm models and related systems. Plan, organize, prepare (including order a long list of complex supplies) state-of-the-art hollow fiber infection model studies with limited to no supervision. Perform standard bacterial susceptibility testing, dilution series, standard bacterial identifications (including Gram-stains), phenotypic assays to assess bacterial susceptibility and record growth curves. Quantify resistant bacterial populations by antibiotic containing agar plates (including preparation of agar plates with defined antibiotic concentrations). Perform, with minimal supervision, confocal fluorescent microscopy experiments and flow cytometry studies to assess bacterial morphology changes over time in response to antibiotic effects. Perform, with limited supervision, automated, complex data analyses of confocal microscopy images and associated flow cytometry data. Perform in experiments that include molecular methods to characterize mechanisms of bacterial resistance to antibiotics, gene expression in response to antibiotic treatment, isolation of DNA and RNA,real-time RT-PCR, and related techniques. Prepare, standardize and dispense sterile media solutions and bench reagents as required for researchprograms with minimal to no supervision. Prepare, autoclave, clean and sterilize plastic- and glassware as well as instruments as required forresearch programs with minimal to no supervision. Analyzes experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of microbiologicalfindings for lab meetings, NIH progress reports, and publications. Prepares Graphs and Tables inpublication quality.Administrative and financial support: Maintenance and use of electronic and paper-based information systems, data bases, websites andrecords. Maintain laboratory equipment and materials including the disposal of waste and ordering of supplies, planand coordinate ordering of supplies for the entire laboratory with minimal to no supervision. Ensure the laboratory area is maintained in a tidy and safe working environment, check and replenishstocks and assist in the maintenance of apparatus, equipment and instruments. Keep abreast of developments, activities and protocols in area of expertise through liaison with staff andpeers, reading relevant literature and attendance at meetings and seminars. Maintain and monitor laboratory biosafety and chemical safety plans in coordination with the UF BiosafetyOfficers and other colleagues. Provides and maintains a safe work environment by participating in safety programs, committees, orteams and by conducting laboratory or plant safety audits. Updates biosafety and laboratory safety documentation for the entire laboratory with minimal to nosupervision. Takes care of annual biosafety audits and appropriate maintenance of laboratory equipment. A master's degree in a relevant area, from a recognized university, with subsequent relevant work

experience in biochemical / microbiological studies OR an equivalent combination of experience andtraining.

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills including capacity to communicate with individuals

at all levels in the organization experience and an ability to effectively analyses information and produceclear, succinct reports and documents.

Planning and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and set and meet deadlines.

Demonstrated level of computer literacy and proficiency in the production of high-level work using

software such as Microsoft Office applications (in particular Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint) andspecified University software programs, with the capability and willingness to learn new packages asappropriate;
