Job Description: The Russ College of Engineering & Technology’s Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment ( ISEE ) at Ohio University invites applications from enthusiastic and skilled researchers to contribute to exciting work in developing thermoplastic composite materials for fused granulate fabrication ( FGF ) additive manufacturing. This opportunity centers around a collaborative 24-month initiative at scaling composite material formulations for market segments such as construction and tooling applications.The research endeavor will encompass several key areas of focus:

Development and compound engineered composite formulations for FGF printing applications.

Conduct detailed analysis of composite materials including mechanical, thermal, and rheological properties.

Generate and analyze FGF printed prototype products for market applications.

Primary Accountabilities include:1) Engineered Composite R&D: Develop and modify composite formulations for FGF printing applications. Compound and pelletize composite materials and prepare test specimens for analysis. Determine mechanical, thermal, chemical and rheological properties of materials utilizing defined testing procedures. Identify and implement ASTM test specifications with respect to application requirements, such as international building codes or other industrial specifications.2) FGF Additive Manufacturing R&D: Develop and optimize designs for targeted applications using CAD / FEA software. Print test prototypes using Tradesman Series TM P3-44 FGR printer and validate performance via standard specifications.3) Technical Communications: Write technical reports and develop presentations. Develop and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts. Assist in developing intellectual property disclosures.Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field by start of appointment.

At least 1 year of related work experience.
