Makai Adventures and Kainani Sails specialize in small group whale watching, snorkeling and private charters out of West Maui. Makai Adventures is a 33' Centurion Powerboat that carries up to 25 people for whale watching and snorkeling tours. Kainani is a 45' Beneteau Oceanis Monohull Sailboat that carries up to 6 people for private charters.

We are seeking long-term Captains and Crew to join our team! Full time and current Maui residents preferred. All applicants are required to have a valid First Aid and CPR certifications, valid drivers license, be a US citizen and desire to thrive in the boating industry. Captain's must have a minimum 50 ton license. Crew must be lifeguard certified. To captain Kainani, monohull sailing experience is required (Hawaiian waters preferred) as well as small trailer driving experience, outboard skiff experience and be mechanically inclined. Both positions require a pre-employment drug test as well as continued enrollment in a random drug testing consortium for the duration of your employment. Applicants must be physically fit and able to manage beach loading on Kaanapali Beach year-round, if working on Kainani. Full time is 3-5 days per week, 5-14 hours per day. Wage will be based on experience, 100% medical and dental insurance provided once basic state requirements are met. Tips are split 50/50 with crew and average 15-25%.

General responsibilities and requirements:

- CPR and 1st AID Certification (or obtain within 30 days of hire.)

- 50ton minimum Merchant Mariner License required for Captains. Sailing endorsement required for Kainani.

- Lifeguard certification required for crew.

- Able to free dive approx. 20 feet.

- Be able to lift 50lbs with ease.

- Be comfortable swimming 100 yards and treading water for 2 minutes.

- Successfully perform all crew duties including but not limited to line handling, docking,

- mooring at snorkel site and putting the boat to sleep, cleaning, maintenance etc.

- Strives to continue to learn about mechanical maintenance and boat systems.

- Stays up to date on vessel and passenger safety protocols.

- Provide 5-star customer service when interacting with passengers and/or potential passengers both on and off the vessels while striving to continue to enhance the passenger experience.

- Desires to continue learning about local marine wildlife, culture and geology.

- Deep interest/passion in local marine life and Hawaiian culture is a plus.

- Remains up to date on company trips, promotions, retail, and other offerings.

- Displays enthusiasm for company development and helping us grow!

- Able to pass a pre-employment drug test and remain on a random drug testing consortium.

Captain Specific Requirements:

- General responsibilities and requirements:

- Maintains and manages all aspects of assigned vessel.

- Quickly and effectively solves any mechanical issues, ensuring the charter can safely run.

- Maintains Log Book and participates in monthly drills.

- Responsible for upkeep of physical and mechanical attributes of the vessel.

- Ensures systems, including but not limited to appearance, organization, mechanics, appliances etc. meet company standards at all times.

- Reports monthly inventory.

- Provides solutions to problems in a timely manner.

- Ensures charters run safely and successfully.

- Ensures COI and Coast Guard mandated regulations/certifications are up to date.

- Enforces policies onboard.
