Job DescriptionLocation: Chicago, ILHospital: Rush University Medical CenterDepartment: Rush Day School (RDS)Work Type: Full Time (Total FTE between 0.9 and 1.0)Shift: Shift 1Work Schedule: 8 Hr (8:00:00 AM - 4:00:00 PM)Rush offers exceptional rewards and benefits learn more at our Rush benefits page .Summary:To provide educational services to child psychiatry inpatients and those pediatric inpatients not being seen by the Chicago public school hospital teacher. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and ICARE values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.Other information:Required Job Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Special Education from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. State of Illinois LBS I certificate or certificate from another state or substitute teaching certificate may be considered if LBS I certification is in progress. Will work under supervision of certified teacher until LBS I obtained.Preferred Job Qualifications: Master's Degree in Special Education from a regionally Accredited Institution of Higher Education.Responsibilities: Create and maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to assigned students' emotional, behavioral, and academic development. Provide tutoring to medical patients at bedside. Monitor, evaluate, and plan for transitional discharge placement when appropriate. Design and create teaching tools that are developmentally and situationally appropriate for individual patient needs. Monitors, evaluates, and plans for transitional discharge placement when appropriate. Collaborates and consults with other members of the health care team to provide coordinated treatment plans for each student. Organizes and participates in parent-teacher conferences and maintains open communication with parents regarding their child's progress. Serve as liaison between hospital and participating school/programs. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of interventions on each student's plan. Collaborates with other clinical educators in the curriculum planning for the school. Participates in the review and re-evaluation of the curriculum on an annual basis. Participate in QI activities and complete departmental reports as assigned. Identify environmental safety hazards for children and develop corresponding preventive/protective measures. Select, purchase and maintain and inventory of educational materials and other supplies as indicated. Incorporates the Rush values of care in the delivery of patient care. Accepts responsibility for professional practice. Keeps abreast of current trends, legislation, and other topics pertinent to the field through in-service attendance, professional organization membership, and continuing education classes. Maintains professional certification. Complies with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory agencies' standards. Attend staffing, department meetings, and appropriate patient care conferences.
