Financial Controller

Position Summary

FCI Construction in Auburn, Indiana is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee all financial operations for our growing general contracting business. This role will provide strategic analysis, ensure compliance and risk management, and collaborate closely with operations and leadership to maintain financial health and support informed decision-making. Strong construction accounting experience is essential. The Financial Controller reports directly to the President.

Core Responsibilities

Manage

-Oversee financial operations, including general ledger, cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.

-Maintain open communication with staff and collaborate with operations on financial activities such as payroll, credit card processing, and new hire enrollment.

-Monitor cash flow and forecast cash requirements to maintain a positive cash position.

-Ensure accurate and timely processing of payables and receivables, including lien waiver compliance.

-Process weekly payroll and payroll tax payments accurately and on time.

-Build and sustain positive relationships with owners, vendors, subcontractors, and employees using a servant-leadership approach.

Analyze

-Prepare and interpret financial statements and performance reports to identify trends and profitability.

-Ensure timely month-end and year-end close, including WIP reporting and job cost reviews.

-Develop annual budgets and conduct monthly variance analysis.

-Optimize accounting workflows and leverage technology for efficiency.

-Establish and track KPIs for financial health and operational efficiency.

Control

-Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure compliance and prevent errors or fraud.

-Oversee risk management processes, including credit card usage, expense reporting, and subcontractor compliance.

-Maintain system integrity and accurate general ledger reconciliations.

-Support internal and external audits with accurate documentation and timely responses.

Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required).

-Minimum 7+ years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in construction.

-Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and construction billing practices.

-Proficiency in accounting software (preferably Viewpoint) and Excel.

-Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
