Salary: This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $59,800. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package: https://in.accessgov.com/spd/Forms/Page/spd/compensation-calculator/ Role Overview: The Secondary Science Specialist provides statewide leadership, coordination, and technical assistance for academic standards, instruction, and assessment related to science. You will interpret and administer state educational policy related to secondary science. You will also review, update, and support Indiana's Academic Standards for science, including biology. You will also coordinate a menu of resources for print and online focused on improving secondary science education. Samples of outcomes include:

Provide content expertise for developing and maintaining assessments.

Work in partnership with other content specialists to align efforts.

Participate in initiatives, programs, and activities statewide.

Support agency STEM initiatives.

This role requires that you have five years of experience in an elementary classroom as a teacher and/or instructional coach for English Language Arts and/or Social Studies.

A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows:

Develop and monitor education program/initiative objectives, outcomes, and actions to achieve agency goals.

Direct, plan, or implement policies, objectives, or activities within educational institutions to increase institutional effectiveness.

Interpret and explain policies, rules, regulations, or laws to educational institutions and the constituents within.

Recommend and direct strategic action to address program gaps and opportunities.

Prepare and analyze reports, including those requesting funding or implementation of programmatic services.

Direct or coordinate the financial or budget activities to fund educational programs or increase the efficiency of specified programs.

Develop or train educators or agency consultants on program requirements and usage.

Serve on boards and committees to provide insight on program highlights and trends.

Ensure program requirements adhere to federal and state policies and grant compliance.

May recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.

May set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

A Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of experience in a related field of study or expertise, or

6+ years of experience in a related field of expertise.

Additional qualifications:

Specialized knowledge in educational systems obtained through experience and/or education

Specialized knowledge of education programs and services including pertinent rules and regulations.

Extensive knowledge of all source materials and references including federal and state laws governing the programs.

Ability to develop and implement new processes and approaches and discern any far-reaching implications.

Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, the public, government officials, and other stakeholders.

Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
