Job Description:The Data Architect is responsible for designing relational and dimensional databases. The Data Architect applies relational theory and business process analysis to the development of logical data models and converts these logical models into physical database objects using data modeling CASE tools. The Data Architect develops and implements enterprise-level strategies and principles for the integration of enterprise information resources by defining corporate standards for data architecture, format, quality, and database design. The Data Architect is also responsible for the design, development, and implementation of ETL processes. The Staff level Data Architect independently manages moderately complex projects and their components. The Staff Data Architect is responsible for the validating of the analysis, models, and data conversion and quality assurance processes. The Staff Data Architect provides input to help define best practices and standards in database design and business intelligence solutions. This position works closely with leadership and customers at the corporate level of the organization to develop integrated and standardized business intelligence solutions.Python experience would be a nice value-add.Microsoft SQL expertise is critically important in this role.Job Essentials

Records detailed logical and physical data models in the information repository and coordinates the publication and maintenance of these models.

Facilitates database design sessions and translates business requirements into logical and physical system designs for moderately complex projects.

Coordinates the physical database design and implementation process for moderately complex projects. Designs the optimal data presentation environment for the customer and works with various reporting tools.

Coordinates with specific database performance monitoring and tuning tasks including the design of optimization and indexing schemes for moderately complex projects.

Develops, tests and implements ETL (extract, transformation. and load) routines.

Documents business requirements and essential functionality requirements for in-house developments.

Ensures proper integration with existing Intermountain Health's data, standards, and business processes.

Provides leadership for moderately complex projects through development of project work plans, recommendations for optimal utilization of resources, milestone tracking, and coordination of project team efforts. Keeps management and customers informed of progress and exceptions.

Assists in the development and implementation of system backup, recovery, and support plans.

Addresses the customer needs, manages expectations and ensures system-wide integration.

Participates in the technical review process of designs completed by other designers.

Develops, documents, and delivers complex ad-hoc queries of production data as requested by business users.

Consults with the business users that are performing queries. Works effectively with clients and staff to determine needs, specifications, feasibility, and project priorities.

Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Statistics or closely related field. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.Three years experience in database design, development, and business intelligence technologies.

Demonstrated general knowledge of SQL (structured query language).

Demonstrated ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential material and adhere to data security and confidentiality protocols and procedures.

Demonstrated knowledge of general data warehousing concepts and understands the primary differences between On-line Transaction Processing and Decision Support systems and how to appropriately support the requirements and environments for each.Preferred QualificationsExperience with the following technologies and tools: MS SQLServer DB, Dimensional Modeling/cube creation, Cognos, MS Access, MS Excel, Unix Kornshell.

Demonstrated knowledge of basic information used in a healthcare environment and how the data is produced, consumed and transformed.

Experience with PL/SQLPhysical Requirements:Interact with others requiring the employee to communicate information.
