SUMMARY Maintains the cleanliness, neatness, and general environment of assigned school building interiors and facilities. Maintains school premises, including sidewalks, driveways, yards, and playgrounds in a neat and clean manner at all times. Responds to emergency calls as needed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Maintains floors in a clean and attractive condition by sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors. Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and window treatments. Dusts furniture and equipment. Polishes metalwork. Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, wall and floor surfaces, and trim. Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas. Cleans and disinfects restrooms, sanitary fixtures, and drinking fountains daily. Washes walls, ceiling, and woodwork. Washes windows, door panels, and sills. Opens and closes buildings and checks that all exit doors and panic hardware is working properly. Secures facilities and turns off lights upon departing. Raises and lowers flags. Ensures that proper security lighting is operating as required. Empties wastebaskets and transports trash and waste to the disposal area. Replenishes bathroom supplies. Replaces light bulbs and ceiling tiles as needed. Cuts and trims grass, and shovels snow and sands or salts sidewalks and steps. Moves and/or stacks furniture and equipment within and between buildings. Sets up tables and chairs in auditoriums, gymnasiums, dining facilities, classrooms, and other facilities. Reports damage and vandalism immediately to supervisor or building principal. Reads, understands, and complies with appropriate MSDS, confined space, and lockout/tag-out information. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. May require a hydronic license. Previous experience in using a variety of cleaning equipment preferred such as floor buffers, vacuums, and water extractors, etc. Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment such as lawnmowers and snow blowers. COMMUNICATION SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers (principals, teachers, students, and parents), and other employees of the organization. ANALYTICAL and REASONING SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. TECHNOLOGY SKILLS Must be able to use the computer, process work orders and time tracking, and enter accounting information. Able to retrieve and print information from various computer programs when needed. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED Will perform other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent or designee, necessary and appropriate to the achievement of the program and/or District goals and objectives.
