The Area-Based Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the performance, safety, and efficiency of a defined production area. This role ensures that daily production goals are met while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people development (SQDCP). The supervisor serves as the primary point of leadership for all associates within their assigned area, driving operational excellence and continuous improvement through disciplined daily management and lean principles. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInclude the following. Other duties may be assigned. Lead daily start-up meetings and communicate production targets, safety topics, and shift priorities. Oversee all associates within assigned area, ensuring balanced workloads and adherence to standard work. Conduct Gemba walks to confirm safety compliance, 5S, and process discipline. Maintain a safe working environment and drive proactive hazard identification and correction. Oversee quality processes such as first-piece checks, inspection, and SPC. Manage production flow, staffing, and equipment readiness to meet daily schedules. Partner with maintenance and engineering to minimize downtime and improve reliability. Support associate development, coaching, and performance feedback. Use lean tools (5S, PDCA, A3, Kaizen) to eliminate waste and improve process stability. Lead immediate containment and follow-up for nonconformances. Track performance metrics using SQDPC boards and support tier meetings. Inventory Management Responsibilities: Lead all inventory discrepancy investigations within the assigned production area, ensuring timely containment, root-cause analysis, and corrective action implementation. Verify accurate material consumption through proper SAP/ERP transactions, including backflush accuracy, BOM correctness, routing validation, and scrap reporting. Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, WIP, components, and finished goods to prevent shortages or overproduction. Ensure operators follow standard material handling procedures (labeling, scanning, FIFO, staging, usage recording). Review material variance reports and collaborate with Planning, Warehouse, and Quality to resolve discrepancies and prevent recurrence. Support cycle counts by preparing areas, confirming counts, correcting errors, and validating adjustments. Maintain 5S and housekeeping for all material storage locations to prevent mix-ups and misidentification. Partner with Material Handling and Logistics teams for timely delivery, removal, and movement of materials. Escalate systemic materials issues such as BOM inaccuracies, incorrect routing, standard pack issues, or recurring POE errors. Train associates on correct handling, scanning, and transaction methods to reinforce material accuracy.
