OverviewAs an ER Nurse CHI Saint Joseph Health, you’ll be the first touchpoint to the people in our community during health emergencies.No two days in emergency nursing are ever the same. You’re a multitasker who can react quickly as you’ll prioritize patients based on their medical necessity while you’re providing emergency triage to others. As part of our ER team, you’ll partner with an experienced clinical team to deliver stabilizing care to our patients by performing IV starts, foley catheter insertions, or aiding providers with chest tube insertions.To thrive as an ER nurse, you should exhibit teamwork, professionalism, critical thinking skills, and a willingness to take on additional projects such as patient experience initiatives. Use emergency triage protocol to intake, discharge or admit patients.
Deliver stabilizing care to emergency patients of all ages as part of the larger ER team, adapting care to changes in patient’s condition as needed.
Use knowledge of cultural differences to provide patient care that is sensitive to and consistent with cultural values, beliefs, and customs. Document the nursing care plan and changes in the patient's condition.
Engage in other activities that will benefit patient outcomes, such as patient experience initiatives, mentoring, etc.

Implements appropriate nursing care interventions. Administers medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and established nursing policies and procedures. Care provided is based on defined standards of patient care and nursing evidence-based practice.Essential Job Responsibilities
Assumes responsibility for acquiring knowledge and skills necessary for patient care in the identified practice setting.
Performs assessment and analyzes patient problems and conditions using critical thinking skills to determine need for standard, urgent or emergent interventions.
Implements and/or modifies plan of care using assessment data, standards of care and evidence based practice inclusive of nursing care coordination, appropriate patient and family education, and discharge planning. Facilitates interdisciplinary partnership in patient care.
Integrates ethical provisions in nursing practice and delivers care in a manner that preserves and protects patient autonomy, dignity and rights.
Administers medications, IV therapy, and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures.
Evaluates progress towards attainment of desired patient outcomes.
Demonstrates effective on-going observations and reassessment of patient/family and their response to the interventions and changes in condition.
Documents assessments and interventions in accordance with hospital policy and standards of care.
Utilizes resources appropriately and follows facility guidelines for documentation and charging of medical supplies and equipment.
Assigns or delegates tasks to designated support personnel based on needs and conditions of the patient, complexity of the task, predictability of the outcome and facility policy.
Collaborates with new employees and peers to support orientation, training and development opportunities. Supports the profession of nursing through support for nursing student clinical activities, as appropriate.

Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN) from an accredited school of nursing.
Required Licensure and Certifications
Current RN license in the State of Kentucky
Basic Life Support (BLS) via the American Heart Association (AHA)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) via the American Heart Association (AHA) within 3 months of hire
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) via the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months of hire
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 12 months of hire
PREFERRED Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
Previous nursing experience in Telemetry, Cardiac, Emergency or Critical Care service lines
