DescriptionSTATE PROMOTIONALThis recruitment is open to current State of Maryland employees only.The MDTA owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes, across the State of Maryland. We are committed to quality and excellence in customer service, and we rely on our organization's values, traditions and – most importantly – our employees to achieve these goals.The Accountant Lead Specialized is the lead level of advanced accounting work in the areas of cost accounting, systems accounting, federal fund accounting, or bond and loan accounting. This position assigns, reviews, and approves the work of and trains lower-level accountants performing cost accounting, systems accounting, federal fund accounting, or bond and loan accounting duties.The incumbent for the current vacancy will work in the Revenue Unit of the Finance Division. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Providing advice and guidance to lower-level accountants in the resolution of complex problems;

Performing advanced level accounting in the preparation of financial records, reports and statements for use by management;

Interpreting, analyzing, and explaining financial information; and

Performing complex accounting transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with an understanding of Government Accounting Standards.

This position will be supervised by the Accountant Supervisor II or other higher-level official. The current vacancy is in Baltimore, Maryland. May be prorated based upon start date.QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditingExperience: Four years of experience examining, analyzing, and interpreting accounting systems, records, and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles to include two years performing advanced duties in the areas of cost accounting, systems accounting, federal fund accounting, or bond and loan accounting.Your placement on an eligible list may be based solely on the contents of your application; therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information. Candidates may substitute a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with thirty credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing for the required education.

Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.

Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required general accounting experience.

Applicants may substitute one year of professional auditing experience for one year of the required general accounting experience.

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in the Accounting Officer classification or Financial management specialty codes in the Accounting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
