Ranked 35 among national universities, Boston College has 888 full-time and 1,281 FTE faculty, 2,711 non-faculty employees, an operating budget of $1.4 billion, and an endowment in excess of $3.5 billion.Job DescriptionGeneral Mechanic HVAC, 2nd Shift Split, Sunday-Wednesday, 12pm-10:30pm$40.11 Hourly PayUnder the direct supervision of the HVAC Shop Supervisor, or other designated personnel, the General Mechanic, HVAC performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of refrigeration, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, and their controls. Much, but not all of this work will be focused on planning, scheduling, performing and documenting regular Preventative Maintenance but will include reactive maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems smaller than 10 tons/15,000 CFM.Daily tasks include but not limited to: preventative and reactive maintenance/repairs on air handler units (AHU), circulator pumps, split HVAC systems, cooling towers and fan coil units. Performs blower assembly repairs including bearings and motor replacements and pipe removal and replacement.Utilizes a computerized maintenance work order system to perform all maintenance and provides written (electronic) records of work completed on a daily basis. Communicates with supervisors, contractors, Work Center and customers on a continuous basis through multiple means. Employees may perform other duties as assigned. This position is deemed essential.RequirementsRequiredMinimum of three (3) years recent full-time experience as an HVAC or maintenance mechanic in a facilities setting or performing work in a residential or commercial setting working for a licensed contractor or maintenance organizationExperience with mechanical piping systems, bearing and shaft assemblies, pump removals and installationsHigh school diploma/GED graduateEPA Universal Recovery LicenseMust be able to read and understand plans, blueprints, and schematics related to trades and mechanical systemsDemonstrated ability to work independently and ability to work from written or verbal instructionsSkilled in the use of equipment and tools used in the HVAC tradeMust hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's licenseAbility to assist vendors/contractors as directed by their SupervisorMaintains appropriate parts and equipment inventory levels to facilitate quick and seamless repairs and maintenanceDemonstrates working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
