Coordinate the department's Earth Camp program, which introduces Michigan high school students to Earth and environmental sciences and increases participation in this and other STEM fields via an exciting, field-based, experiential curriculum. The position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the department's three, one-week residential summer programs (two in Michigan, one in Jackson Hole, WY). The program promotes participation by students from groups that are underrepresented in the field (e.g. first-generation, low-income, underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities). This work entails:

Developing curriculum materials for each summer camp offering. This will include detailed field guides and instructional materials.

Working with Wolverine Pathways staff to recruit students to the summer program

Planning and managing all aspects of the summer programs, scheduling all activities and aspects, including organizing food, lodging, and transportation. (d) Communicating with students and parents.

Ensuring all appropriate forms are complete.

Hiring, training and supervising instructors.

Serving as onsite manager for all programs.

Develop new website content and other communications to promote and report on the outcomes of Earth Camp

Provide logistical support for department guests and field activities, including booking reservations, travel, accommodations, reviewing safety requirements (e.g., waivers), and reviewing/fulfilling vehicle or gear needs.

Bachelor's degree in the Earth and/or environmental sciences or closely related field and 2 years related experience in coordinating or communicating high school level science.

Excellent written and oral communications skills; strong interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills.

Desired Qualifications

Master's degree in the Earth and/or environmental sciences or closely related field. Experience in teaching, science communication, science outreach, program management, or field logistics.
