The State of Minnesota is committed to equity and inclusion, and invests in employees by providing benefits, support resources, and training and development opportunities.This temporary student worker position is anticipated to last up to 2 years.This position exists to assist Closed Landfill staff with the following:· Assist staff in Closed Landfill in organizing information and data obtained as part of Closed Landfill site work.· Assist Closed Landfill staff with mapping sample locations and data points utilizing GIS tools/programs.· Assist Closed Landfill staff with organization and preparation of material for public meetings.· Assist Closed Landfill staff in tracking results for residential well samples.· Assisting Closed Landfill staff in field for mowing inspections.· Correcting and updating of spatial data for Closed Landfill project activities/sites.· Verifying and entering spatial data in EQUIS for Closed Landfill residential well sampling activities.· Data collection and analysis, entry and reporting for Closed Landfill funded activities.· Labeling of Closed Landfill files and checking for confidential information in files.Minimum QualificationsPost-secondary education student working on an environmental degree or related degree.(To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker you must be a student enrolled in an educational program or planning to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as student workers, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. As a student, you must be enrolled in high school or in a post-secondary or graduate program. If a student is enrolled at a credit granting institution, he/she must carry at least six semester (nine quarter) credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, a student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load shall be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.)Possess a valid Driver's license (see additional requirements).The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will not sponsor applicants for work visas. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.Preferred QualificationsOral and written communication skills sufficient to communicate with internal and external customers.Ability to work independently and with others.Accomplished in using computer programs (Microsoft office products, e-mail, intranet, internet, outlook).Ability to follow directions and carry-out detailed processes.Physical RequirementsRequires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.Additional RequirementsA driver’s license is an essential function of this position. This requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License. The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver’s license AND a satisfactory DLR check.Requires a Class D driver´s License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver’s license.
