School Nurse - LPNJob DetailsJob LocationNorth Street - Buffalo, NY Position TypeFull Time, 12 Month Salary Range$19.97 - $29.95 Hourly DescriptionBuffalo Hearing & Speech is seeking a full time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to serve as the school nurse at our Buffalo location of our Early Childhood Special Education program. The school nurse is responsible for the general care, welfare and safety of our preschool children and staff as well as maintaining health records and disseminating medical information. The LPN will administer medications as well under the direction of the Registered School Nurse. This position will work year round Monday - Friday for a total of 37.5 hours/week. Enjoy paid school breaks! Essential Functions:

Responds to classroom situations involving medical emergencies and observes, measures and records data regarding the student’s health status and reports to the Registered Nurse. Performs related clinical procedures within the LPN scope of practice. Follows-up with children, staff and families.

Administer medications to students as needed in accordance with physician’s orders and under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

Communicate required HCP information with classroom team(s) as required.

Responds to emergency response drills (e.g., lock-out, lock-down, etc.).

Update student health restriction/allergy list/diet orders and forward to classrooms. Assist with securing alternative food items from the breakfast and lunch vendor to accommodate children’s dietary restrictions and/or food allergies

Purchase, stock, and distribute first aid supplies for ECP location.

Report status of students’ immunization documentation.

Gather staff member signs and symptoms for referral to Occupational Health facility when needed.

Report situation/accident reports for all BHSC staff and students to the Professional Board for student injuries and the safety committee for staff injuries.

Serves as a member of the Emergency response team and the Safety and Wellness Committees.

Conduct First Aid/CPR and MAT Training for BHSC employees.

Prepare and deliver OHSA and HIPPA in-services/presentations for new employees and annually for all staff, as directed.

Review and post all relevant information from the NYSDOH and the CDC.

Required Skills:

Strong interpersonal skills when interacting with pre-school children and their parents.

Strong communication skills in person and over the telephone

Minimum Degree Required:Associates Degree in Licensed Practical Nursing

Minimum Experience Required:1-2 years of experience working as a LPN

Required License/ Registration/ Certification: NYS Licensed Practical Nursing licensure

Physical Requirements:

Physical actions may include, but are not limited to; bending, kneeling, standing, squatting, reaching, printing, crawling, and running.

Vision, speech, tactical and hearing senses adequate to perform job requirements.

Frequent sitting/ standing and when appropriate, floor sitting with pediatric patients.
