I am looking for a tutor for my son (going into fifth grade) and my daughter (who is going into second grade). We need someone who can push them to excel academically in a respect that their schools will not. We would like a special emphasis on reading comprehension, critical thinking and math (but math, as it’s done with age-appropriate “math Olympics” problem solvingexamples can be found online). For both, but my daughter especially (because of her age) we also want someone who can find a way to weave in some fun, when possible.
So we need a teacher/tutor who is able to teach mathematics and English/language arts, with more thought, and reasonable expectations, than “common core” offers. But we are talking about elementary age learning. This is not complicated stuff. Both kids are about a year ahead in math, especially my son (so he will mostly work at a sixth-grade level). Both children are, for their ages, avid readers.
We are located in Weston, CT (Fairfield County suburbs of NYC), close to the Weston public school campus. Both children are upbeat, have that childlike enthusiasm, energetic, well rounded, have myriad fun activities and sports clubs, and yet understand the value of hard work as well as the value we place on academics (within reason, for their age).
If you're interested, please send (1) your experience as a teacher or tutor, with a resume attached (2) confirm you will have three references and your willingness to have a standard employment background check, if we get to that stage (3) your availability in summer and once the school year starts.
Ideally, this would be a long-term relationship, and you'll bond with the kids over time. We will come up with days and times that work for you as well as us, as we want this to be good for all! Want want it to be way for you to make some extra cash on the side in a fashion that is convenient and good for you, while also connecting with the kids for years (ideally), helping them grow mentally (learning, thinking and even emerging insight), in a respect a teacher who only knows a child for a school year cannot, or has too many students to ever help any one in this way. I look forward to hearing from you!
