We are seeking an experienced Civil Inspector to join our team for a DEP project. This role involves 100% fieldwork, focusing on civil inspections for a wastewater treatment plant under construction, deep, supportive excavations, and underground utilities.Job Description:
Conduct civil inspections for the DEP project at the Gowanus Canal Superfund site.
Perform inspections on the wastewater treatment plant being built.
Inspect deep, supportive excavations, underground utilities, and other construction activities.
Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum of 8 years of experience in civil inspections.
Minimum of 6 years of experience with deep excavation, support of excavation, utilities, roadway, waste treatment facilities, highway, and/or bridge construction.
Project experience in heavy civil construction, deep supportive excavation, and underground utility work.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering / Construction Management or equivalent or NICET III/NICET IV Certification.
Extensive knowledge of standards, specifications, physical characteristics, and properties of roadway, structures, drainage, and utility systems construction materials.
Knowledge in industry Standards and Specifications for different agencies (NYCDEP, NYCDOT, NYCDDC, etc.).
Skilled in detecting discrepancies in plans, materials, and construction methods and processes and in implementing appropriate corrective action.
Skilled in planning and scheduling inspection activities.
HAZWOPER / OSHA 40 certification.
OSHA 30 certification (training will be provided if not already certified).
Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Resident Engineer to ensure conformance with standards, safety, and contract requirements.
Oversee contractor’s daily activities and work of junior inspectors.
Make decisions concerning work in progress, solve field and office problems, and supervise others.
Read, analyze, and interpret complex technical documents.
Administer portions of the contract, including preparing change orders and pay requests.
Coordinate, inspect, review, and affirm results of tests on construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and soils.
Ensure construction materials are acquired from approved sources.
Ensure the contractor adheres to Occupational Health and Safety Act and environmental and Waste Management requirements.
Inspect and approve maintenance of traffic, including lane closures.
Inspect deep excavation and underground structures.
Keep the Resident Engineer informed of conditions that could result in contract change orders and/or delays.
Maintain awareness of safety and health requirements and assure compliance with applicable regulations and contract provisions.
Oversee daily activities of inspection personnel and ensure detailed and thorough daily activity reports.
Review and comment on standards, plans, specifications, special provisions, manufacturers’ material specifications, applicable regulations, and technical and constructability issues.
Perform quality assurance inspections to achieve compliance with contract plans and specifications on all phases of treatment facility, highway, and bridge construction.
Physical Demands:
Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration.
