S&P Lunch is looking for a manager to help run our bustling, hectic, warm, simple, ambitious, iconic luncheonette across from the flatiron building in manhattan. We are the oldest lunch counter in NYC, originally opened in 1928 and having passed through many hands and a couple names (most recently called Eisenberg’s for around 70 years), it got handed over to us (the Court Street Grocers folks) in 2022. We’ve tried to remain as true to the space as is possible, restoring it to how it existed in our memories, and doing the same with the food, attempting to make the most appropriate, delicious versions of New York luncheonette staples as we can. We’ve been shown a lot of love by New York Magazine, the New Yorker, and the New York Times, who named us a critics pick, and have included us on their list of the best 100 restaurants in NYC for two years now. Most importantly, we’ve been warmly embraced by the community.
The space requires someone who can stay calm in controlled chaos, can handle multiple thoughts at once while maintaining focus on individual tasks, and genuinely love interacting with people. Our ideal candidate has an understanding of and appreciation for New York Deli and Diner food and service styles, can prioritize and delegate tasks and organize labor dollars, thrives on fostering a positive working environment, can balance being an advocate for the team and the customer alike, and doesn’t mind getting into the nitty gritty when the day demands it. Open and honest communication is key, as is an ability to interface with the chef, kitchen manager and cooks in a productive and convivial manner. Our restaurant has an entirely open kitchen, dish pit, and everything else. We have no room for FOH/BOH silliness.
While have no immediate plans, growth is a very real possibility for the restaurant, and we’d love to find someone who will be able to grow along with us.
We know that this can only work with a healthy work/life balance and offer many tools and benefits with which to make that happen.
We offer:
A consistent schedule with 2 consecutive days off/week, with the caveat that emergencies do happen that require some flexibility.
Benefits package includes employer contribution to health insurance, PTO, meal discounts.
$68-77k salary.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity and inclusion and belonging at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
