ARE YOU AN AUTO TECHNICIAN? DOES THIS STORY SOUND FAMILIAR?
Dick owns an auto repair shop. One day, work was slow. Half the technicians had nothing to do.
Tom is an auto tech who works for Dick. Harry is their customer.
Harry came in for an oil change. Dick told Tom to do the oil change and check the car over. Tom did the oil change and found that the car didn’t need any work at this time.
Dick said, “Look harder – I think it needs brakes.” Tom said, “I checked Harry’s brakes and they’re in good shape.”
Dick said, “I didn’t hear that. Look again.” (wink, wink) Tom double checked the brakes and told Dick, “Harry’s brakes are fine.”
Dick said, “Well since there are no other jobs today, I guess you won’t earn any more money today.” (“No work – no pay”, or “pay by the job” is common practice at dealerships and some other auto shops)
Tom asked Dick, “Isn’t it the owner’s responsibility to find customers? How will I pay my rent?” Dick responded, “Not my problem.”
The moral of the story? DON’T WORK FOR A DICK.
