Senior Cloud Engineer - Observability ServicesJob DetailsThe Senior Cloud Engineer is a vital member of a small team dedicated to ensuring that our systems are observable, secure, reliable, cost-effective, performant, and operationally excellent. This role requires a versatile individual who can contribute to development, system operations, observability testing, performance optimization, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) development. The Cloud Engineer is adept at tackling new engineering challenges, proposing potential solutions, and collaborating within a team environment. This position drives our organization's transition to modern observability practices for applications and infrastructure. Additionally, it carries the responsibility of leading and nurturing the professional growth of the team.Primary expectations include:ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) development primarily leveraging AWS servicesExtracting and enriching data from many data sources, including but not limited to ServiceNow, Atlassian Jira, Security tools, Observability tools, and Code repositoriesCreate visualizations leveraging dashboarding toolsMaintain and build infrastructure utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), pipelines, and source code managementAddressing the most intricate challenges encountered by the team's systemsDeveloping innovative tools or processes to tackle complex problemsAdvocating for and modeling best observability practices for junior team membersMentoring junior team members on their journey in observability engineeringStrong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environmentDemonstrating comprehensive knowledge of the products managed by the teamEnsuring consistency in process implementation across multiple applicationsMinimum Qualifications:A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in infrastructure development and software supportExperience with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tools and concepts for integrating and processing data in cloud environmentsExperience with pipeline processes and implementation (e.g., GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins)Previous experience architecting cloud-native solutions on AWSExperience managing cloud infrastructure on AWSProficiency in Linux operating systemsFamiliarity with scripting languages such as Python, Java, or PowerShellExperience with Terraform for infrastructure as codeExperience with code repository tools such as Git for version control and collaboration.Nice to have:Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologyFamiliarity with cloud computing concepts, particularly AWS servicesComprehensive understanding of various infrastructure platforms and conceptsUnderstanding of general networking concepts (e.g., CDN, WAF, DNS, PKI)Knowledge of security policy implementation and maintenanceUnderstanding of backup and disaster recovery conceptsExperience in a production environment supporting mission-critical applicationsFamiliarity with standard production practices, including change managementWhat to expect from PearsonDid you know Pearson is one of the 10 most innovative education companies of 2022?At Pearson, we add life to a lifetime of learning so everyone can realize the life they imagine.
