NCDOT is looking for a highly motivated individual looking for a position with the potential of career advancement. This position will provide all state benefits including paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and retirement. This entry level Engineering Technician position will support higher level technicians or engineers in preparing plans, documents, estimates, and contracts. This position will perform field investigations for maintenance contracts, organize and maintain as-built, and road files; perform construction estimates and assist the County Maintenance Engineer in review of encroachment, and driveway permit submittals. Steel toe shoes are required. This position is located at the Nash County Maintenance Yard.You do not have to have a degree to qualify for this position. Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience
Experience working independently conducting inspections for compliance of contracts, driveway permits, encroachments.

Additional Expectations: Must possess communications skills to provide telephone and on-site technical assistance to on-site inspectors, developers, contractors, engineers and general public. Ability to review and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, standard specifications and inspection procedures. Ability to communicate well with the general public and co-workers, knowledge of mathematical functions including algebra, geometry and trigonometry is required. Skill in the use of surveying equipment, basic office equipment, drafting equipment, and computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, MicroStation). May require work during non-traditional work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays and times of emergency.
